The Royal Wedding of Louis XIV

Le Poème Harmonique

Works by Lully, Cavalli, Veillot, Hidalgo, Métru, Rossi, Charpentier…

One of the greatest musical celebrations of the Grand Siècle

1660, Saint-Jean-de-Luz: the marriage of love and peace of the young Louis XIV and the Infanta Maria-Theresa of Austria. Vincent Dumestre and the Poème Harmonique recreate the unprecedented splendour of the festivities that accompanied these celebrations, all the way to Versailles. The King’s Cornets will open the concert from the square in front of the Basilica, while the church will play host to the symphony. Finally, the most beautiful extracts from Cavalli’s Il Xerse and the Symphonies by Monsieur de Lully will allow us to hear the opera that celebrated the return of the bride and groom to their Château.
