With this First Murder, Scarlatti invented the ‘biblical thriller’. As Cain is about to kill his brother Abel, Adam and Eve watch helplessly as the drama unfolds, while God and Lucifer clash within Cain’s very soul. In a typically Baroque spatial effect, Abel’s voice can even be heard from beyond! Scarlatti composed a major score for this quasi-opera, in which the orchestra takes on completely new colours and the fratricide is heard as a caress. Thibault Noally is passionate about this music, and brings with him his Accents and a brilliant young cast.
