Proserpine

Les Talens Lyriques

“This opera is above all others” – Madame de Sévigné

With Proserpine, Lully took lyric tragedy further than it had ever gone before, in particular by giving the orchestra the leading role, that of drama and passion. Proserpine also marks a reunion between the composer and his brilliant librettist Quinault, after the scandal caused by Isis, in which Madame de Montespan was apparently all too recognisable as a jealous Juno… Surrounded by an all-star cast, led by Véronique Gens and Marie Lys, Christophe Rousset is about to bring his complete Lully repertoire to a brilliant close.
